In order to access the dashboard first, you have to sign up for the free SEMrush account.
As you login into your SEMrush dashboard, you will see several options on the left sidebar. Click on the Overview option under the keyword Research tab.
Now you entered the section where you can enter any broad keyword from which the tool will find you with the list of keywords related to the topic. Also, you need to filter according to the country for which you want to target the keyword.
In the below example, I entered the keyboard “buy books”. After you click on the search but the tool will find you the keyword Overview of the particular keyword in the country you selected as shown in the screenshot below.
In the screenshot, you will find four different parameters according to your entered keyword below are the explanation for each one of them:
Volume is the section where you will have an idea that how many people are actually is searching for the particular keyword in the country you selected in this example we have a (5.7k total volume).
As you can see the keyword difficulty is way higher which is 85% with the red mark. Provides average CPC of $0.70 Dollars. And 0.87 is the keyword difficulty level in the PPC campaigns.
2. Global Volume:
The global volume section will display all the searches happening all over the globe for that particular keyword, it has nothing to do with a particular country, it’s a global search. As you can see we have individual searches of the US, UK, India, Australia, Canada, and others.
3. Results On SERP
These are the total results that are indexed in the SERP by the search engine which in this case is almost around 9.3 billion. Remember this Surf is only for the United States.
Note: Not all 9.3 billion results will be accurate for the keyword we searched if we take the intent of the searcher. Somehow these results show up cause they contain the keyword Book or Buy.
4. Keyword Variations
Semrush will also provide you with the keyword variation of all the particular keywords that you searched. As you can see in the screenshot they are 48.8k keyword variations in the United States alone, in total, we have 310.1k total volume of Keyword variation all over the globe.
You can use all these keyword variations in order to target your piece of content to multiple keywords in the search engine. Some of them are long-tail keywords (long queries searches) and some are primary keywords.
Similar to the keyword variation where the section includes all types of keywords like long tail and primary keywords. Question sections only contain long-tail keywords in a more variety and accuracy, as you can see that in questions we have 14.6k total volume in the United States and 115.1k total volume globally.
If you want traffic from all over the world you can easily include all these Global keywords into your content and search engines would likely rank you in those demographics.
The trend is the graph that shows we growth or decline of keyword search volume over 12 months of period. The trend is completely based on the metric analysis of the number of searches per month.
So why this trend section is so interesting.……
Because it shows you the monthly analysis of the searches based on the targeted keyword therefore it will provide you an idea that the particular keyword will generate traffic for you all the years or for just a specific occasion.
For example let’s say some festival keyword, which will only provide the traffic for a particular period of time.
So it provides you an idea of what kind of content you should create for these keywords or even if you want to choose this keyword for your content marketing strategy.
One more thing you can do is you can find a couple of broad keywords which is related to your specific niche or your blog. You can collect more keywords and more related categories in order to collect the trending data.
Use the keyword research tool and it will provide you the trending searches and how the search is changing over time through which you can curate your content of the blog which will eventually lead you to build more strategy and authority.
Moreover, SEMrush also provides you with more tools to find more profitable keywords that will lead to huge traffic.
Related And Phrase Match Keywords
In the left sidebar just below the Keyword Overview, you will find the option of Keyword Magic Tool you can click on it or you can simply click on the related queries as shown in the keyword overview Screenshot.
Now more most of the advanced SEOs use these sections of the tool to enhance their game of marketing. Use this tool is a little bit tricky need an understanding of how to use it.
Before this, we focused on finding the Broad and Parent keyword which we would use for our content marketing strategy.
These parent keywords have higher keyword difficulties which make them hard to rank because more high-authority websites are already ranking for these keywords.
There are fewer chances for the new websites to rank for keywords that are higher in difficulty. So we can target low competitive keywords even if they have low volumes, these keywords are really going to be powerful to generate traffic for your website when comes together.
We call these keywords low-hanging fruits and beginners should leverage these multiple keywords to first build their strong ranking profile for the website.
Semrush will provide you a low competitive keyword on the behalf of analyzing the backlink profiles plus the content length of the top 10 SERPs.
Big and authoritative websites do not focus on the low competitive keyword because they have the leverage to focus on the high authoritative keyword with high volume.
The volume of 100 searches/mo does not allure the big websites to create content. Therefore, this is the perfect way to start for beginners to optimize their content for these keywords with a volume of a hundred or above (my recommendation is always to focus on above 100 volume).
Does targeting the keyword with low volume is worth the effort?
Absolutely Yes, Why…
This is because, these low-hanging fruits are easy to tackle and when you target one primary keyword in one blog post, then it is more powerful cause the big website does not target them.
If you specifically create content about the particular keyword, the search engines will surely rank you in the SERPs.
I would recommend you to create long-form of content through which the search engine will also rank you for LSI (latent semantic indexing).
The Correct Way To Use SEMrush Phrase Match Feature
Most of the advanced SEOs use this feature in order to target those keywords that are not broad but are specifically narrowed towards their content strategy.
When we use the phrase match feature, the tool will fetch the long-tail keywords which are somehow related to the primary keyword you searched for in the keyword Overview.
Phrase match can also able to fetch the long tail keyword which is related to the keyword. Suppose you searched for the product, this feature will provide you with the alternative keywords that people are searching for and contain your searched term.
As you can see in the above screenshot there are numbers of keywords that people are searching for and there are some keywords that are having good buyer intent.
In this screenshot, you cannot able to see the total keywords (21,793) that related to the keyword here but when you will research these keywords according to your intent you will find the best keyword that will serve as a traffic magnet.
As you can see from the keyword highlighted in the screenshot these two keywords (how to buy books on kindle, how to buy audible books) are specifically called by buyer intent keyword. Users type this kind of keyword in the search engine when they have some sort of problem and they want an immediate solution to that problem. If the buyer intent is worth it usually the search volume would be high for these keywords.
The Correct Way To Use SEMrush Related Keyword Research
When you start as a beginner you don’t always have a complete understanding of the niche but we all have to start somewhere and understand the process down the line.
Are you start working on the website, you will come across many ideas to create content that you never heard, but they are tremendous ideas and you want to implement them.
With the power of related keyword research, you can search for the keyword and you will find all the related keywords and content ideas, it’s not mandatory that related keywords and ideas completely belong to the primary keyboard but belongs to the symbol niche.
Now if you look at the keyword “buy book”.
Suppose you try to target this keyboard directly which makes it impossible to rank and get traffic because of its high difficulty.
Some Use Google-related searches which also do not work in this case because that will only provide you with some limited related searches that are closely bound to the primary keyword.
Here you can simply use the SEMrush related search feature which will easily provide you with thousands of related keywords like online book order websites or book ordering websites.
There are thousands of ideas that you can put in the search bar and that rule will find you millions of related keywords which provides you content ideas and helps you in creating more unique content for search engines.
Understand SEMrush Keyword Difficulty
Let’s take the example of the keyboard that we have which is “buy book” with around 5.4k searches in the United States alone and a Global 17.6k/month.
Now you’ll be thinking with that Global volume, you will have floods of traffic with that one keyword. True but only for the website with high authority that can tackle its keyword difficulty.
Most of these keywords have higher difficulty because many websites already published content. So how do we tackle this situation, simple you don’t want to post with these keywords.
That’s why the keyword researching tool providing the list with the keyword difficulty. A tool like SEMrush uses complex algorithms to determine their data like domain authority(DA), page authority(PA), backlinks, social authority, content length, website age, and many other factors.
